Rye Ice Hockey News
Welcome to the 2015-2016 Rye High School Ice Hockey season. The Rye Ice Hockey program is respected around the state as one of the top programs and as such, we will continue to schedule non-league games against the top competition NY State has to offer. In addition to our focus on strengthening the program on the ice, we will strengthen the program off the ice by involving ourselves with various community programs and charities. Last season the Rye Ice Hockey program raised over $10,000 for Special Olympics by taking part in the Polar Plunge, collecting for and stocking the food pantry at the Carver Center, and raising over $5,000 for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in West Harrison in our "Rye Hockey Fights Cancer" initiative. We ask for the community to support the Rye Ice Hockey program by attending as many games as possible.
The varsity and JV season begins November 9th and the modified season begins November 23rd. Varsity's season can finish as late as mid-March depending on the success of the team during post-season play. Varsity ice hockey requires a significant commitment by those who make the team. Student athletes are required to practice/play six out of seven days during each week of the season. Also, varsity games are scheduled during Christmas and Winter breaks with practices surrounding those games, which are mandatory for all. Practice ice time is often difficult to come by, therefore practices times, lengths, number per week, and days of the week often vary. However, when ice is not available, dry-land practice sessions are held, which include strength and conditioning, film sessions, and chalk talks.
The Rye Ice Hockey team will compete in Conference 2 this season, which will be comprised of Rye, Pelham, Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, and White Plains. The varsity team will play the full 20 games allowed during the regular season plus sectional play. Sectional playoff dates for the 2015-2016 Season are as follows: 2/20-D2 Out bracket, 2/22-first round, 2/24-quarter finals, 2/26-semi-finals, and 2/28-finals. All regular season and postseason games are played using National Federation Rules.
